According to a recent Government Fleet article, Orange County officials are developing a fuel audit of its two largest users after catching an employee stealing more than $6,300 in gasoline. It turns out that each time the employee would fill up his county vehicle, he would also fill up a personal fuel container.
Do you keep a close eye on all fuel purchase transactions within your fleet? With fuel being one of your largest operating expenses, it’s important to monitor this type of activity to help prevent fuel theft. With a GPS fleet tracking solution, you can integrate your fuel card data and generate automated reports to help you monitor fuel usage. Here are two reports that can help to eliminate fraudulent purchases:
- Fuel Card Purchase History Report: This report provides a full summary of all fuel related purchases, simplifying the retrieval of fuel card data and allowing for vehicle-by-vehicle fuel usage comparisons. It identifies fuel and non-fuel purchases and can be generated by individual driver or your entire fleet. This helps companies to improve fuel efficiency and eliminate abuses.
- Fuel Slip Audit Report: This report helps to identify and mitigate fuel slippage and fuel theft. It provides information regarding purchase location and vehicle location during the time of transaction. It also points out instances where a vehicle was not near a gas station when fuel was purchased and when more fuel was purchased than the gas tank can hold.
