According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, a motor vehicle is stolen every 44 seconds in the United States. Additionally, only 52% of stolen vehicles are recovered. With July and August being the worst months for vehicle theft, it’s crucial to take extra precaution when it comes to the safety of your vehicles.
As we mentioned in a previous blog post, pickup trucks have topped the list of vehicles with the highest theft rates. Why the sudden interest in trucks? The rise in construction work may be driving the increase in everything related to trucks, including the rise in truck thefts. And for those who house expensive equipment in their vehicles, one stolen vehicle could mean thousands of dollars’ worth of stolen equipment. So, what can you do to keep your most valuable assets safe?
With a fleet tracking solution, you can:
- Track the location of your vehicles from your computer or mobile device
- Set up alerts to notify you when a vehicle has moved from a designated area
- Instantly retrieve information regarding vehicle and driver activity
As part of National Vehicle Theft Prevention Month, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration has put together some additional safety tips to help you protect your vehicles and belongings. Check it out here: NHTSA Offers Safety Tips for Car Owners.
